Genesis and Evolution of Islam and Judaeo Christianity ReviewThe author, who was a physician in the U.S. army during the late 1880s and stationed in the arid southwest (much like the Middle East), researched the origins of various religions: Judaism, Christianity, Islam, and how they may have been influenced by Buddhism & Hinduism. He noticed the links of the monotheists originating in the Mesopotamian region. He wrote that after His crucifixion, most of Jesus' apostles drifted away and Christianity was only `saved' by Peter through his missionary works. The author noted that Christianity seemed to have `morphed' into polytheism: God, Jesus & the Holy Spirit [see the Council of Nikaia in 325 AD and the Council of Constantinople in 375 AD] - a concept that repelled Mohammad, who thought he was restoring monotheism. The author understood very well the theology of Judaism-Christianity-Islam. He recognized Mohammad had worked out the monotheistic concept, and seemed to like Islam for that. However, how well the author understood the Quran is uncertain; he didn't refer to Mohammad's confusion with the moon goddesses, nor did he recognize any of Mohammad's dhimmitdue concepts for Christians and Jews, nor did the author reflect upon the rejection by Mohammad of Jews and Christians as friends. With the author's frequent references to the development of monotheism in the deserts of the Middle East, he noted his conversion from his own early agnostic beliefs to his wakening up in the early morning stars, and thereby, after some time awakened to the reality of the existence of God. For some reason the author was heavily into race-groups: such as Judaism being the exclusive religion of the Jews, and how the northern Europeans `protest-ants' broke away from the rather exclusive Italian domination of the Catholic church in Italy. At the book's conclusion, the author all of a sudden declares that to stop world poverty (the book was originally published in 1932 near the start of the Great Depression) that lands needed to be `redistributed' between peoples in order to bring a fresh rejuvenation of farming productivity, which will result in peace between peoples. What brought on this epiphany goes unexplained. Interestingly, the book is written in almost a mimicking style of the Quran: somewhat of a `sing song' style with strong pontifications; more of a church sermon than a scholarly book. Given his running-on writing style, the book could have been condensed with its main themes fitting easily into a fifth of its size. The author was apparently wealthy enough to have his book published. While the author is knowledgeable about religions, he writes in `broad' themes, and lacks `specific' or critical analysis of Islam. This book will never be quoted in any scholarly texts. While I have read many books about Islam, this book was still informative in providing a reflection of the big historical picture (origins) of the monotheistic religions, but no deep analysis. It was worth reading (but barely), but not worth reprinting. If you are unfamiliar with the rise of early Christianity, read it if you stumble across it. The author was 90 years old when he published this book, and he wrote a couple of others, including: "Race Life of the Aryan Peoples," "Ahasuerus--A Race Tragedy," and "The Lure and the Land" (about Palestine).
