Venus ReviewThere are hundreds of personal stories that could take place in this universe and the characters within are on the whole rounded and emphatic. The premise is perhaps overly fantastical, and requires some suspension of disbelief, but the characters are more than engaging enough to tie the story together. I think this would make an excellent Hollywood movie. I would have liked to have read more of Laura throughout the story as her arc is set-up promisingly and her motivation is well established but after an exciting start we miss her until the final act. The self-conscious, conflicted Avalon vessel is an exciting creation and one I feel we are just scratching the surface on by the end of the book.Veteran science-fiction fans will doubtless enjoy some original spins on some well established ideas, and the book has the ambition, romance and scale that sci-fi readers will crave from a modern dystopian space opera. Suprisingly for this genre, the author has has created a cracking read with ideas and themes that will resonate with everyone, and far beyond the traditional sci-fi fanbase.
