The Bodily Location of Happiness ReviewAny serious student of metaphysics will eventually come across this teacher, a living American from New York, who speaks freely and without any inhibitions about truth, love, divinity, the timeless topics of ancient wisdom brought alive in our time and culture. While many people may find the whole Guru thing offensive, and some of his more recent works are not very accessible even to serious students, this talk given spontaneously in the early 80s in response to a question from one of his students remains a crystal clear, humorous, and compassionate distillation of wisdom that has much to offer anyone interested in happiness (which is everyone, basically). The talk starts with a humorous criticism of the spiritual seeking he saw in his own students, and goes on to discuss seeking itself, and how it obstructs the native happiness of merely being, which is always already our true nature. Some of these concepts will be familiar to students of Buddhism, but hearing them expressed brilliantly, humorously, in common American English, by a person who is not repeating dogma but who indeed is speaking from the depths of his own obvious and immediate realization, has a magical quality, as if you are hearing Jesus give the Sermon on the Mount or Gautama teaching in the Deer Park. The talk itself encompasses in 45 minutes or so the essence of esoteric wisdom, in a form that is more lively, engaging, and accessible for Westerners than traditional metaphysical texts.
