Avatar Box Set: Vols 1-3 (Avatar: The Last Airbender) ReviewMy 8 year old son read these graphic novels before he saw an episode of the show.
He simply loves them and now I get them as soon as they are released. Anything that can keep my son reading is a plus for me. I've read them as well and the stories are good and present challenging themes.Avatar Box Set: Vols 1-3 (Avatar: The Last Airbender) Overview

Avatar: The Last Airbender 1 (Avatar: The Last Airbender (del Rey)) ReviewIt used to be that the Avatar would keep the balance of the world, but everything went wrong when the Fire Nation declared war, wanting to dominate the globe. The Avatar should have been able to stop this, but he...disappeared.
One hundred years pass. The war is still going on, and some believe that the Avatar will come back and save everyone. Until that day happens, they are living in a very dangerous world.

After this rather dramatic opening, the story segues into the lives of Katara and Sokka, a sister and brother in the Water Tribe. They live in the South Pole, where Katara is the only waterbender, something she takes seriously. Her brother, Sokka, is the immature one.

When Katara sees someone frozen within the ice, she quickly frees the person. That person turns out to be 12-year-old Aang, who believes he's only been there a few days, despite the evidence he's been there about a hundred years. Katara has to update him on what's been going on in the world, and he's shocked when he learns.

Not too far away, Prince Zuko, a member of the Fire Nation, sees the light created by Aang's being freed from the iceberg. Prince Zuko is convinced that this means Aang is the returning Avatar and will do whatever he can to stop the boy. Aang, meanwhile, is oblivious of this development.

Aang doesn't seem like an all-powerful Avatar. He's a happy-go-lucky kid who enjoys soaring around on his flying bison. While Prince Zuko prepares to fight, Aang meets the other people of the Water Tribe and shows them his airbending skills.

This short graphic novel is aimed for children and is the first part of a series. Indeed, it ends with a cliffhanger, enticing readers to pick up the next volume. A good air of mystery is already going on with the connection of Aang and the legendary Avatar. Young fans of the cartoon are prime examples for an audience and it could be a good way to help elementary students practice their reading while enjoying a fun adventure story. Avatar: The Last Airbender is a popular television show, and its familiarity will likely help it get kids interested in picking up a copy. All of the illustrations are in color, and the story is followed by several pages explaining the different Tribes in the story.
-- Danica DavidsonAvatar: The Last Airbender 1 (Avatar: The Last Airbender (del Rey)) OverviewAt the South Pole, a lone water tribe village struggles to survive. Young waterbender Katara and her warrior brother Sokka rescue a mysterious boy named Aang, who is an airbender—a race of people no one has seen in a century. Soon, everyone discovers that Aang is the long-lost Avatar. Now it's up to Katara and Sokka to make sure that Aang faces his destiny: to save the world!

The Last Airbender Movie Novelization (Avatar) ReviewI bought this over Amazon thinking it was going to be a real novelization. Instead, it is more along the lines of a children's book. There is size 12, Times New Roman font, but it is 120 or pages and there are pictures from the movie in the center of the book. It is not what I was hoping for.
If you are looking for a real novelization, giving insight into the character's actions and thoughts...this is not it.The Last Airbender Movie Novelization (Avatar) Overview

Avatar: The Last Airbender, Book 2 ReviewCompletelly recommended both to children and adults; just what I was looking for. Avatar: The Last Airbender, Vol. 6 ReviewThis book is just images from the show, written up as basically a comic book just like you would expect. That being said, the books are good quality, sturdy paper, and nicely colored ink. The text is a little hard to read but cool. My 6 year old is able to read them with minimal help. All in all, if you are a fan of the show, you will probably enjoy the graphic novels.Avatar: The Last Airbender, Vol. 6 OverviewThe group meets a young earthbender who is forced to hide his abilities for fear of being arrested by the Fire Nation. However, after Katara encourages him to use his earthbending powers to save an old man, the entire gang faces the wrath of the Fire Nation.

Sozin's Comet: The Final Battle (Avatar) ReviewI think that the book could have been written better. In fact, the prose is so dull that it makes me think that I can write my own version of this fantastic story and do much better.
I've been a fan of Avatar for a very long time. I bought this book purely for spoilers, and though it did the job well, I found myself bored at the poor writing. I gave this book a three because it fulfilled its informational purposes (and gave me a free poster). But honestly, after July when the real episodes come on, I see this book going out of print.Sozin's Comet: The Final Battle (Avatar) OverviewIn this adaptation of the four-part Season Three finale, Avatar fans will finally discover if Aang really can save the world from the evil Fire Lord! Told through first person narratives, readers will get the inside scoop from their favorite characters, and hear what's going on in their heads as they help Aang battle the ultimate enemy. Organzied into short chapters, this book is especially suited for middle-grade readers, but itcan be enjoyed byAvatar fans ofany age. Also included is a totally exclusive Q & A with Avatar creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, as well as some of their early sketches of the Avatar world and characters. This full-color interior will feature illustrations based on the episodes, and an original, pull-out poster!

Avatar the Last Airbender, Volume 1 ReviewHonestly, don't bother buying this. It's the exact same thing as the show. This costs $8 and it only contains one episode. I say that the art is great and all but there should be at least 3 episodes in the book. You might as well buy the DVD because it costs almost the same but has 4 episodes in it. If you want to read it, I recommend reading it in a bookstore or borrowing it from the library.Avatar the Last Airbender, Volume 1 OverviewWind. Earth. Fire. Air. The Lost Scrolls: Water (Avatar) ReviewFor fans that are always seeking to always learn more about the world of Avatar, I definitely recommend these Lost Scrolls; not only do they contain resumed chapters, but also information that is not mentioned nor in the series. One really learns a lot.The Lost Scrolls: Water (Avatar) OverviewIf you are reading this, you have uncovered one of the four hidden scrolls I have compiled about the world of Avatar. This scroll contains all of the knowledge that I have gathered so far about the Water Tribes -- their history and culture and the great tales of their past and present. Katara recounts her discovery of the Avatar in the iceberg, Sokka remembers his childhood upon seeing their father's old friend, and Aang tells of his lessons with the Waterbending master in the North. The scroll also contains information about Waterbending moves, Healers, Water tribe traditions, and much more. Keep this scroll safe, and share it only with those you trust. Beware, for there are many who wish to expose its secrets...

The Tale of Zuko (Avatar, the Last Airbender: The Earth Kingdom Chronicles) ReviewI bought all six books of The Earth Kingdom Chronicles for my family after watching the entire series on TV. Five stars for all books! While being an enjoyable book for children, I have - as an adult keenly interested in martial arts and Asian philosophy - found these books to be right on the mark with many concepts that are sometimes difficult to understand and I found it a sheer blessing to have finally some creators and writers who can take those concepts and relay them to others in a clear, simple and concise manner. Sadly this seems to be lacking in many mature readers' novels. And speaking of mature... Will there ever be a book #7 for Zuko's uncle Iroh? The Tale of Zuko (Avatar, the Last Airbender: The Earth Kingdom Chronicles) OverviewI am Prince Zuko. After being betrayed by my wicked sister, Azula, Uncle Iroh and I have sought new lives in the Earth Kingdom. It is humbling to wander as a refugee, but it has also opened my eyes to the pain the Fire Nation has inflicted on the world -- as well as on me. On one hand I am proud to be a prince of the Fire Nation, but on the other hand I feel very ashamed. What is my destiny? Is it to turn my back on the Fire Nation and start anew, or is it to restore my honor and earn back my rightful place as the future Fire Lord? I have yet to find out.

The Tale of Aang (Avatar, The Last Airbender: The Earth Kingdom Chronicles) ReviewMy son loves all things Avatar...so of course he was thrilled with this book, but I think he prefers the Lost Scrolls. The Tale of Aang (Avatar, The Last Airbender: The Earth Kingdom Chronicles) OverviewI'm Aang -- and this is the tale of my journey through the Earth Kingdom. I traveled there with my friends Katara and Sokka to find an Earthbending teacher. I'm not sure why, but we ran into trouble almost everywhere we went. We got chased by Prince Zuko's sister, Azula, and got caught in a sinking library. Did I mention that Appa got kidnapped by Sandbenders? There were definitely some scary moments...but I can't complain about getting stuck in the Cave of Two Lovers with Katara! All in a day's work for the Avatar, right?
