Sexier Sex: Lessons from the Brave New Sexual Frontier ReviewI ordered Sexier Sex after finishing Gina's first book, The Sexual Revolution 2.0: Getting Connected, Upgrading Your Sex Life, and Finding True Love -- or at Least a Dinner Date -- in the Internet Age. The new book is an interesting look at sexuality and the ways that modern (and not so modern) technology can enhance human interaction. The book is geared toward women, but as a man I found a lot of the sections helpful. Not only does the information help ME as well, but it gives me an amazing insight into how the modern, tech-savvy woman uses all her options when handling sex in the new millennium.
Many of the topics in the book are geared toward more inexperienced users of technology. Gina takes the time to really explain the beauty and the hazards that exist in technology. Her writing style is filled with little comments and asides that bring the articles to life the way no ordinary 'how to' book could. She uses personal experience from her real life (as well as the lives of her readers) to illustrate her points.
Fans of her column in Wired or of her blog will find the format of the book familiar. Each topic is covered in about 2-3 pages, with sidebars giving additional information or addresses to help research her topics more fully. I think the thing I love most about the book is that I have talked to Gina for a while now as a fan of her column, and you KNOW that she speaks from experience. She isn't afraid to tell it like it is, and if she recommends a product or service, you know she has real-world experience with it.
Her writing style is also engaging and leaves no doubt that this person would be someone YOU could have a conversation with over a cup of coffee and feel completely comfortable. Reading her articles is like talking to an old friend. She doesn't talk down to her readers if they are not as tech-savvy as she is. She takes time to really explain her topics well.Sexier Sex: Lessons from the Brave New Sexual Frontier OverviewSexier Sex: Lessons from the Brave New Sexual Frontier is the handbook for every woman who has ever wanted to try things that she wouldn't reveal to her best friend … every woman who has wanted to push the limits of her sexuality … every woman who has suspected there might be a voyeur … a seductress … an erotic storyteller … a dominatrix … a polyamorous, polysexual goddess … lurking just beneath her "nice girl" exterior. With step-by-step instructions, hot tips, and "tales from the front," sex-tech columnist Regina Lynn shows women how to find greater sexual pleasure, intimacy, and adventure through creative use of modern technology, regardless of their relationship status or sexual orientation. What's more, most of the technology is already familiar — no special purchases necessary. After all, everyone knows, it's not the tech, it's how you use it that counts.Sexier Sex dispels the apprehension surrounding the use of new technologies and invites women to take the lead in redefining sex, relationships, and love in the information age.

Julie's Gift: Memories of London ReviewI just read 'Julie's Gift' written by Kevin Kirsch, a husband who is not a feelings sharer, but through this novella lets us all know (including his wife) that he does have deep feelings. It is a nice light read that may make you look at your unromantic partner a bit differently since it reminds you that just because feelings are not shared doesn't mean they're not felt. The plot is not riveting and you won't find a car chase, but that's the best part. It revolves around a couple's anniversary trip to London, England. The husband admits his idea of a trip is from the couch to the fridge, but goes out of love for his wife. It unfolds from there. The coolest thing about this book is that it was penned in secret by the husband and presented to her as a Valentine's surprise! Julie's Gift has great sample itineraries (how they actually spent their days in London) as well as the author's Top Ten London Travel Tips for the Guys (funny and useful list).
Not everyone is romantic or able to share feelings aloud, and many of those people are men. This book is a thoughtful and dare I say passionate shout to his wife to tell her that even when he doesn't say so, he is happy and lucky to be with her.Julie's Gift: Memories of London OverviewKevin and Julie travel to London. Kevin loathes sightseeing. Julie is the quintessential tourist. Kevin ends up enjoying the trip but doesn't tell Julie. He secretly writes a book about his fond memories to surprise her and express his love.

Messages from Jesus: A Dialogue of Love ReviewMessages from Jesus is written by a woman I personally know -- a healer who has been able to see and converse with Jesus since childhood. Despite her reticence about the name, Saint Ta, Jesus told her to use it (see Chapter One). He said she was to write books of spiritual truth for others, sharing her experiences and His words of hope for humanity.
Throughout the book, Jesus reminds us that "God is a loving God" and that the Old Testament conception of a vengeful, punishing God is erroneous. Many Christians and Jews today are moving away from the belief that God is judgmental and vengeful. It is always disturbing to have one's beliefs challenged, but Jesus wants us to realize that God is a God of love and mercy, not of condemnation and punishment. He makes it clear throughout the book that we, not God, are the ones who judge each other and ourselves, and delve out punishment.
Jesus discusses life and death, in response to Saint Ta's question about those who have or perform abortions. He says: "Life is precious, before war and after war. Do you condemn those who send your youth to die in war? Within your dualistic world, you perceive circumstances that warrant war, even as you perceive circumstances that warrant abortion. Therefore, I simply ask that whatever you do, do it with love." (p. 265) Jesus is making the point that, just as many believe war is justified in certain circumstances, so also many believe abortion is justified in certain circumstances. He began His response to Saint Ta's question by telling us "There are many individual situations that warrant or censure abortion." He also states that the issues are complicated and unfathomable from our human perspective, the soul cannot die, and "It is not for me nor you to judge." Therefore, He simply asks: "whatever you do, do it with love."
Jesus does not take sides for or against war or abortion. When he says, "Do you condemn those who send your youth to die in war?", Jesus is not suggesting that we should or should not condemn these leaders; He is simply pointing out that, in fact, many of us do not condemn them. He is showing us that, within our dualistic world, many perceive circumstances that warrant war, even as many perceive circumstances that warrant abortion. Just as many do not condemn those who send our youth to die in war, so also many do not condemn those who perform abortions. Jesus' words often have to be carefully read and contemplated in order to comprehend His meaning.
At the beginning of the chapter "War", Jesus says, "Thou shalt not kill. War, among other things, is cause and effect, resulting from and in karmic debt. Karmic experiences are destined to happen over and over, unless the chains of karma are broken and love reigns. The commandment, `Thou shalt not kill,' along with love, nonviolence and forgiveness, would rid the earth of this karma, and worldwide peace would be maintained for generations to come." (p. 105) Throughout the book, we are reminded not to think of one kind of person as better or worse than another. By not judging and condemning others, by forgiveness, and by living in love, we unlock the door to spiritual awareness and find heaven on earth.
On page 99, Saint Ta talks about the life in plants, as well as in animals, and mentions that some people think we shouldn't eat animals. Jesus says, "People are unique and from many nationalities, each originally created for and born in their own environment. Now that you can travel from one area to another and live in areas far from your origins, you may not be receiving what you need from your new environment. Seriously think about the food source from the area where you were born and the genealogy of your family. It was the vibration of that area that penetrated into your consciousness....It is the shared vibration with others within that area that draws them back. The best foods for you are grown in and of the environment of your origin." It is important to know that our genetic inheritance and the vibration of the area we were born in determine which foods are best for us.
Messages from Jesus is full of advice for our times, as well as timeless teachings and truths for all of us to live by. Jesus discusses the environment, terrorism, love, oneness, reincarnation, and many other important matters that concern us all. The author has performed a great service by recording Jesus' words and sharing her experiences with the Master.
Messages from Jesus: A Dialogue of Love OverviewMessages from Jesus A Dialogue of Love"Imagine listening to an interview of Jesus of Nazareth. Most of us would be sitting there just praying that the host would delve into the issues that are near and dear to us. In her book, Messages from Jesus - A Dialogue of Love, Mary Ann Johnston shares with the world hours of conversation she had with the One known as The Christ."Chances are, if you have a question for Him, the answer lies in these pages, as the essence of the spiritual life, modern religion, world affairs, and disasters are all dealt with rather comprehensively."Nothing that I or the author could say will convince anyone skeptical of these pages' origin about their authenticity. But then again, only personal conviction will allow any scripture to be thought of as veritable. I encourage you to delve into this work and find out for yourself if Truth is present here. My guess is, regardless of what you determine, you won't skip a page."- Fred Stella, President, Interfaith Dialogue Association and Host of Common Threads: An Interfaith Dialogue, heard weekly on WGVU Radio, Grand Rapids, Michigan

Summer Snow ReviewRebeccasreads highly recommends SUMMER SNOW as a lively adventure story about love in a time of war. It's also, mainly, a deeply religious & spiritual tale describing transcendental meditation, the history of Sufism & insights into who we are, what we're doing & where we're going.
In this time of post-9/11, US Special Forces doing battle with al-Qaeda in faraway places, come now to Kyrgyzstan where Cholpon is a farmer of honeydew melons. She's also a lifelong member of an ashram with both Vedic & Muslim traditions, which bought an abandoned Soviet collective farm in a valley high in the mountains.
Now the leader of the ashram tells Cholpon of a vision -- that she is to take a load of produce into Bishkek, the distant market town, sell it, bank the earnings... & await her destiny there.
Meanwhile, Jeff Madsen, no longer a youngster in Vietnam, awakens to gunfire. Trying to get a grip on reality, he knows the sound of battle yet can't place himself nor the woman beside him. Finally remembering he's now in the State Department administering foreign aid he watches a raid on the Kyrgyz Air Force Base across the street.
Old warrior that he is, he knows what he's seeing: a unit of intruders blasting the gates, rushing into the base & then returning with something heavy on a pallet which they load into their truck. Old warrior that he is, he gets out into the shadowed street, takes up the weapon of a fallen guard & shoots at the leaving truck, hitting the driver. The vehicle slows & intruders pour from the back. As Base guards arrive to do battle, one of the intruders lobs a grenade & Jeff dives for cover.
Punctured by shrapnel, he staggers back to the apartment where his lover refuses to let him in. As he stumbles along the hallway, heading out, another door opens & another woman asks him if he's hurt.
Cholpon's destiny has arrived.
With equal skill William T. Hathaway, in his debut novel, writes about war zones & battles & meditation & eternity.Summer Snow OverviewA spiritual novel set now amidst the war on terrorism as an American warrior falls in love with a Sufi mystic and learns from her an alternative to the military mentality. As US Special Forces battle al-Qaeda, the escalating violence threatens their future together and the lives of thousands in her country. To save them, she shows him an ancient transcendental way to bring peace to the collective consciousness and prevent terrorism. But can they make it work in time? A story of love in the shadow of destruction, SUMMER SNOW blends passion, adventure, and mystic wisdom to convey its theme that higher consciousness is more effective than violence and that women may be more able than men to lead us there.

The Teachings Of Babaji ReviewThis "book" was very disappointing, and was so short, at under twelve pages, that calling it a "book" was, to say the least, very inaccurate. Calling it an article would have been much more accurate, but then fewer people would buy it so the author had an incentive to call it a book to get more people to purchase it. How many people would be willing to buy a "book" if it's under a dozen pages? Not many I would think. If the "book" were somehow super, super special it is perhaps conceivable that people would pay for such a short work - but this "book" is far from special. Actually, though, I was glad it was so short seeing that its quality was so low. This book does tell about a person who called himself Babaji, but the Babaji in this book is not the same immortal Babaji who was originally spoken of in the book Autobiography of a Yogi. The Babaji in this "book" ran an ashram in India and spoke repeatedly of the importance of karma yoga and of the importance of doing work to support his temple; he also spoke of doing ones duty lovingly, and with devotion, and of the importance of giving money, working hard, and not being idle so that he could get people to support him and his temple.
"Babaji" in this work also spoke of how it was the duty of those who visited his temple to only work in supporting his temple and that food, clothes and money should not be given to villagers where his temple was located saying that support should only go to his temple and not to any of the nearby villagers because that would make the villagers become greedy. The question which arises in my mind is, "Who now is being greedy, the villagers or "Babaji?" The emphasis he kept on placing on the importance of karma yoga was very transparently self serving. Karma yoga can indeed be extremely powerful, but not when it's used by self-styled gurus as a way of convincing others to give them money or to work for them at menial tasks, without questioning, because they are told it is their karmic "duty."
This work read as an advertisement, but it was very easy to see that the Babaji in this book is not the same immortal yogi which was described in Autobiography of a Yogi - and even the picture of Babaji in this work looked nothing like the Babaji in Yogananda's autobiography. Save your money and don't waste your time with this book. Autobiography of a Yogi, the original 1948 edition, is offered for the kindle book reader, and it's FREE. Read this version, as I have (several times) and you'll know of the real Babaji. Later versions of Yogananda's autobiography were published by SRF, the Self Realization Fellowship, and these later versions have been changed from the original version which Yogananda published so that they'd repeatedly mention and promote SRF many more times than what was Yogananda's intention in his original publication of his autobiography.
Go to the source and read the original 1948 edition of Yogananda's Autobiography of a Yogi, available here on Amazon for free, and you will open yourself up to the real blessings which Yogananda and his line of gurus, including the immortal Babaji, intended to share with the world. The Teachings Of Babaji OverviewThis book presents the readers with the Teachings about the Path to spiritual Perfection by Avatar Babaji from Haidakhan (India). Babaji is the One Who of His Own Will incarnates on the Earth from age to age to help seekers of the Truth and to edify spiritual leaders of our planet. One of the incarnations of Babaji is known from the book 'Autobiography of a Yogi' by Yogananda. The next coming of Babaji to the Earth in a body was from 1970 to 1984 in Haidakhan. This book is composed of the sayings of Babaji from Haidakhan, which are of significance for all people and in all times.

Passing the Torch: The Way of the Avatar ReviewThis was a text book for a class I took in church many years ago, and I pray that it goes back into print, as the spiritual lessons, and lessons on how spirit works in our everyday lives is SO important!
The author, I met quite a few years later when I moved only to find she was the author of this wonderful book I'd been introduced to through my previous church!
I'm proud to say that I am a graduate & spiritual practitioner through her organization called, "The Forum Foundation"a and while she lived in Ojai, CA, we became fairly close friends.
I pray she is well and urge others to look for her newer books as well!
Bless you Carol B. Knight for being an awesome teacher, through your books, your presence, and your beaming light! We love you!Passing the Torch: The Way of the Avatar Overview
