The Mystic Grimoire of Mighty Spells and Rituals ReviewA Grimoire is the record book of a worker of magic.
In this book, the Mystic Grimoire of Mighty Spells and Rituals,
the author, Frater Malak and his magical order of
Campo Santo, a Mystery School in Canada, researched thousands of rituals
and wrote about 27 rituals and 28 spells
that were the most effective in getting results.
Malak covers every eventuality that you could want:
Good luck, health, money and great wealth, love and sex,
invisibility, relaxation, success, and overcoming enemies.
Every angelic name appearing in this book has been throughly researched.
As an example, in the Arcane Invisibility Ritual, you call upon Yeshayah,
this is another form of the angel Metatron.
In the Overwhelming Good Luck Ritual you summon Bodiel,
this is an Spirit serving under the Goetic Spirit Barbatos.
In the Titanic Enemies Vanquished Ritual, you work with Narudi,
the Akkadian Lord of the Great Gods.
Over the last thirty five years, I have personally tested the rituals
and spells in this book. Without exception,
they have worked over time, depending upon my application of
the knowledge and secrets given in the book,
and properly executing what has been taught there.
The late author, Geof Gray-Cobb provides
an arcane admitting password, this is the Being
that guards the ritual you are working.
There are two ruling planets for each ritual.
There is a Cosmic Being with particular areas of expertise,
meaning that Being has an office. And there is an avatar mantra
that fixes the Cosmic Being upon your goal.
I believe that there is no need to feed or reward the Spirits
in this book, and the reason being that Hebraic Angels
never required offerings or sacrifices. The Biblical text
shows that Yahweh's Angels told humans do not bow down
and do not worship them in any way.
All told this magic works amazingly well.
I believe that this book was one of the best if not the best
work that the author wrote. He called it a feast of magic.
This magical system was inspired by Geof Gray-Cobb's
spirit guide.
This Grimoire was published in 1976.
But remains a definitive work about magical evocation.
That is the art and science of calling down spirits.
And most importantly getting results
for magicians and sorcerers of today.
Try it and see the glorious results.

The Map That Breathed ReviewWow! I couldn't put this book down! The characters are real and likeable, just curious enough to get in trouble but smart enough to find a way out. It was a quick read, but satisfying. As a long-time educator, I found it intriguing: beautiful woven passages, sophisticated language yet incredibly readable. It was exciting, emotional and compassionate. I really cared about the characters. I can't wait to share it with my students. The Map That Breathed Overview

MetalMagic: Talisman ReviewDerek Donais' initial entry into Fantasy Fiction is a heartfelt, adrenaline-laced adventure that gives readers what they want while providing keen insights. The book's first chapter introduces readers to the main character, an inquisitive boy that wants to understand Metanduil and its link to those that are gifted enough to use the alloy to perform magic. Jaren's sister, Morgaine, has the ability to use the magic metal but Jaren does not, despite the increasing connection he feels to the magic.
An immediate conflict emerges between Jaren, Morgaine, and another gifted village girl. It is a conflict that will force the brother and sister to leave everything behind in search of refuge, but the pair is chased across the land by sinister agents. Morgaine has the potential to become a truly powerful Valir (someone that wields Metanduil and acts as an advisor to the land's various kings). The agents are desperate to reach Morgaine and deliver her to a corrupted Valir that has developed a weapon that can destroy kingdoms with a single blow. The Warwitch has already killed one king and her army threatens to overrun the rest of the world.
What none of them, including Jaren, realize is that the boy is the most powerful of them all. Jaren can use magic without the use of magic metal, but his first attempt at controlling the power is an utter failure...and without control, Jaren knows that he will destroy everything around him, including those he loves.
Donais' writing style is fluid while providing outstanding descriptive narrative; it is the kind of writing style that readers of any age should enjoy because the author understands all of the creative elements of a great story: plot, tempo, theme, and mood. Most importantly, MagicMetal has a message for all of us that live in the modern, technically driven world: science and technology are tools, they are neither good nor evil. It is how we, as individuals, decide to use these tools that determine if we are good.
The climatic finish kept me on edge for the last hour of reading as I fought beside Donais' heroes. I could see the instant flashes of magic in a multitude of colors. I could feel the power of the spells. I felt the emotions of Jaren and his sister as they struggled to survive against the Warwitch...
This was an outstanding first book for a new voice in Fantasy Fiction. I highly recommend reading this novel and watching Derek Donais over the coming years. I am hoping for many more novels from this writer.

Trio of Sorcery ReviewI never thought we'd ever get to see Diana Tregard in action again! She first showed up in 1989 when urban fantasy wasn't even a named genre yet. A modern day witch, who knows martial arts and who writes romance novels to put food on the table, but her real job was as a Guardian--a defender against supernatural badness. I'm pretty sure (hey, 1989 was a long time ago...) that she was the first @!&*@*kicking female urban magic wielder I read. Not as hardcore as Anita Blake was at the beginning (and before AB became obsessed with a certain body part, not that there's anything wrong with that but I digress). But..when I picked up the first AB novel--10+ years later-- I remember thinking, 'gee I wish there'd been more about Diana Tregarde'! A search of old Mercedes Lackey information made me think that some creepy/nutty/stalker types must have taken the Diana-verse so seriously and obsessively that ML decided not to write the stories again.
All I can say, is thank goodness she changed her mind! So here we have a new Diana Tregarde book, which is funny, as story-wise, it's the first one and set in the 70s--which I am old enough to remember and appreciate the fine details of. The novella length (almost half the book) was for this tale. Hopefully we will see more of her. I'd like to re-read the older stories, but woefully my paperbacks are locked up in storage for another year or three and the originals are not on the Kindle as yet--if they were this is a series I'd re-buy because this story is out! The paper ones were re-issued a few years ago and are obtainable, if anyone is interested in those.
The second story features Jennifer Talldeer--the main character from Sacred Ground. That was a stand-alone novel, and one I had wished for more stories. Now, 15 or so years later, I finally have it. Once again, this is a character I reminisced about when reading new books, this time like those of CE Murphy's Joanna Walker and others with the urban/shaman theme. Again, Mercedes Lackey was a few years ahead in terms of building a theme. In any case, this too was a nice story, very appropriate for the less-than-full-novel number of words. In contrast to the first story which have a history, this gave a follow up story for the characters...a 'where are they now', except the now is the mid 90s--right around the birth time of Amazon in fact. (Gasp! Life at the infancy of ebay too--which gets a mention).
The final story was an all new product--set in the current time with new characters. I basically started reading it to finish the book--hey I'd read the good ones right? Well, I ended up liking this one too...and very happy I didn't stop. Computer coding and magic...that's all I'm saying.
I got the sense with this book the characters were interesting to the author as well--and I hope she enjoyed them enough to give us more of all three. All in all, I'd give the 4.5 (or 9.125) if only I could use more than the standard 5 star vote! In this case I round up.

Shadow Blade (Shadowchasers) ReviewKira Solomon works for the Gilead Commission (an ancient global organization that governs and upholds the balance between Light [angels, gods, goddesses, spirits, guardians] and Shadow [the Fallen= spawns of Chaos] in the universe) as a shadowchaser; someone of light who is trained to and uses their "extrasense" abilities to track and eradicate Shadow. Kira has the ability of the "touch"; she can see/experience the history of any person/being/object she touches. However, in the accordance with the universes principles of balance, her gift has the adverse effect of siphoning the life-force and destroying any being she makes a physical contact with.
By day Kira is a freelance antiquity expert but at night, she transforms into a shadowchaser with death-dealing tendencies. The story starts off with Kira's mentor Bernie Comstock, requesting she authenticate an Egyptian blade he speculates to be over four millennia. Unfortunately for Kira and Bernie, their find attracts the owner of the blade, Khefar, an ancient Nubian warrior who served in Pharoah's army. Khefar has been on the warpath searching high and low for his blade. But even worse, the power of the blade attracts the Avatar for a powerful fallen who wishes to possess the blade's chaotic energy of creation and unmaking. Despite Kira's many strengths, her fight with the avatar takes a dismal turn when she becomes poisoned with shadow. The infection threatens to alter the mostly light essence running through her veins and replace it with the destructive alien energy of chaos. Time is running out for Kira, and the terms failure and retreat are not in her vocabulary. Looking for an alternative, the old saying, the enemy of my enemy is my friend is Kira's only option when she is forced to team-up with the warrior, in order to try and defeat the avatar.
This book's idea of other dimensions of time and reality existing outside of earth and of the concept of the universal balance fascinates me. That a war took place outside of earth's reality and in the aftermath powerful otherworldly-beings, are trapped here on earth. And thus, have become incapable of manifesting in the flesh, and are forced to fuse their essence with humans and form avatars.
I was completely entertained and intrigued from my first plunge into this book until the very end. The story appealed to and satisfied my appetite for novels that are creatively authentic and dark. The background shadow creatures as such, had a menacing and eerie vibe to them; like they stalked and lurked around every corner. Kira is a kick-butt heroine and a deadly force to be reckoned with. She is powerful in her own right and always gets the job done.
For those wondering what genre this book falls into, I would categorize it as an urban fantasy with a smidge of romance. I savored this story and loved the fact that it was different from the commonly used European culture of fantasy but instead went against the grain and focused on African and Egyptian cultures. Don't get me wrong, I love the widely used European version of fantasy and myths but I also like variety.
This book was one of my highly anticipated January 2010 releases and I'm pleased to say I've added this series to my favorites list. I highly recommend this book to fellow dark urban fantasy readers, and look forward to the next book Shadow Chase due out 7/27/2010.
I also recommend:

Bitter Night: A Horngate Witches Book

The Last Princess and The Cup of Immortality (The Goddess Prophecies) ReviewI am a "Twilight" fanatic and just finished reading "The Last Princess." I loved this story. It was a real page turner, completely engaging and I couldn't put it down. The relationship between Vivienne, the sixteen year old heroine and Lailoken, her "immortal" boyfriend is tantalizing, romantic. Lailoken is so sweet and powerful, like Edward, and I couldn't wait `til they actually meet in the other world.
I loved the zany characters like Eleanor, wicked Aoibell, Sema, the psychic and the Master of the Souls. I couldn't read fast enough during Vivienne's adventures with Chris on her mad dash to England. Also I loved the magic and spell crafting in the Misty Isle and their way of life. It was so vivid like the forest in the "Avatar" movie. I can't wait for the next book to come out. I think it would make a great movie. After I finished, I went to the web site and listened to the audio book samples where the characters sprang to life with full audio effects. I am not generally an audio book person but this sounded so great, I 'm planning on downloading it too. I definitely would highly recommend this book to anyone who loved the "Twilight Saga", "The Lord of the Rings," or "Harry Potter." It's a bewitching read!
The Last Princess & The Cup of ImmortalityThe Last Princess and The Cup of Immortality (The Goddess Prophecies) OverviewWhen Vivienne Le Faye, a sixteen-year-old, with intuitive powers inherits a priceless family amulet, she becomes an instant target.Unaware of her noble heritage, she only knows that a strange family CURSE haunts her. Ready Player One ReviewBrief summary and review, no spoilers.
The year is 2044 and the world is an unpleasant and grim place. Famine and poverty are rampant, and to escape the bleakness of real life most people choose to instead enter the world of OASIS.
Let me explain OASIS - this is a virtual world that is very elaborate and realistic, and it contains multiple planets and landscapes. It was created in main part by a man named James Halliday, the ultimate lonely computer geek, who was obsessed with the 1980's. Halliday died some time before the start of this story but had stated in his will that his vast fortune would go to the person who could find three magical keys hidden in OASIS, pass the portals associated with them, and then find the ultimate prize - the hidden egg. Over the years many people have searched for these magic keys and gates but none have prevailed. Those who search call themselves gunters. Also at play is a villainess corporation called IOI led by a man named Sorrento - who's agents searching for the egg are called Sixers.
The main protagonist of this story is an 18 year old named Wade Watts. Wade lives in abject poverty with his uncaring and cruel aunt. Because Wade's life is so grim, like so many others he spends almost all of his time in OASIS. It's where he goes to school and it's in OASIS where he meets his friends - avatars named Aech and Art3mis. Because everyone he meets via OASIS is an avatar, it's hard for anyone to distinguish friend from foe.
Because of his real world lack of money and help, Wade has few powers and weapons for his avatar (which he named Parzival, a takeoff of Percival the Knight which was already taken.) Even with this disadvantage, because of his intelligence and his obsession with anything Halliday or 80's related he is able to figure out how to find the first key - the copper one, and figures out how to pass that first gate. The race is on, with other gunters and the Sixers in hot pursuit. The future of OASIS is at risk because Sorrento intends to start charging money for the use of OASIS, which would keep so many offline and unable to access it. And this competition poses real life dangers for the players as well.
This is really a quest novel in the grand tradition of great fantasy literature. We have obstacles to overcome and evil-doers to defeat, and "magic," albeit computer generated, along the way.. There is plenty of action in this book and you will be turning the pages eagerly to read what happens next.
One of the (many) things that makes this book so wonderful are all the 80's references, especially to the video games and music and movies that so many of us fondly remember.
Note - don't worry if you weren't or aren't a big video game player or don't remember a lot about the 80's - if you are it might only add to your enjoyment of this novel but anyone can follow along. The story is both innovative and old-fashioned and it should appeal to anyone who loves to lose themselves inside a good novel.
At heart, this is a book for anyone who has ever felt like an outsider or a geek, and for those of us who love to read. I haven't fallen in love with a book like this in a long time and I hope it gets the recognition and readership that it deserves. As an added plus, and without giving away any spoilers, there is an interesting twist of sorts at the end, that poses an ethical dilemma for anyone wielding power over OASIS.
Highly recommended. Just a magical book with a cast of characters that you will really care about. Even though this takes place in the year 2044, the sense of nostalgia and the world created will take you back in time to the way you felt when you were 18. I promise.Ready Player One Overview

Dylan Murphy And The Magic Touch Review
Wow! What a fun read! The author really has a winner here. If you're looking for a fun romp through a magical world, then look no further. In this book, the author has put an original spin on the essence of magical powers, giving the story a fresh new twist. He also manages to blend the real and magical worlds in a unique way which helps you identify more closely with the main characters: they truly are as real as you and me (no need for a prized lineage or a high midi-chlorian blood count!). If you have kids who don't like to read, hand them this book. They will more than likely change their minds! Is this the next Harry Potter? Who knows, it certainly could be. Although it is a fun book for young and old alike, and full of magic, one thing it is NOT is "another" Harry Potter. This is a truly original story and a lot of fun to read. Once you start, and your internal movie projector gets going, you will quickly get attached to the characters and won't want to put the book (or should I say kindle?) down. There is one down side however: it appears we'll have to wait over a year for the next book! In the meantime, grab a copy, enjoy it, and spread the word!Dylan Murphy And The Magic Touch OverviewTwo powerful wizards battle for the greatest magical force ever to exist. The power escapes, but is severely injured. In order to survive the mystical force enlists the help of Dylan Murphy, a sixteen year old boy from Colorado. Strange things happen throughout the State as Dylan helps the magical force survive, restoring it back to health. Unknown to Dylan wicked foes will stop at nothing to seize control of this supreme power. The King and Queen of Colabra dispatch friendly forces to align with Dylan as the great chase begins. He is pursued from Colorado all the way across the universe through magical and mystical places. Battle after battle ensues with the wicked wizard and his followers as Dylan attempts to protect this great force from evil.

All Shadows Fled (Forgotten Realms: The Shadow of the Avatar, Book 3) Review... not just of Greenwood's works, but just of Fantasy in general. The novel picks up directly where the last one left off, and flows without a hitch. The Rnagers Three return as the main heros of the novel, with Elminster and the Knights of Myth Drannor (all FR regulars) spiraling in to give life to Greenwoods infamous humor. (Check out the chapter "There's always revenge". that cracks me up every time i read it.) while the battle scenes (specificly the one for Mistledale) are rather unrealistic (70 v 7000, 70 win with maybe 20 casualties...) they are fun and very well crafted. The way that Greenwood lights from perspective to perspective draws the reader in, and the Maulaugrym provide entertaining and origional villians. THe trilogy was created to be a more perosnal look at the Time of Troubles (as opposed to the Avatar Trilogys wider world-based view) and the two complement eachother nicely, although Greenwood is the better of the three writters. I recomend this to everyone and anyone who enjoys FR and Fantasy novels. All Shadows Fled (Forgotten Realms: The Shadow of the Avatar, Book 3) OverviewThe Shadow SpreadsThe Time of Troubles had almost passed. Cloak of Shadows (Forgotten Realms: The Shadow of the Avatar, Book 2) Review"The Great Foe", a name that sent shudders down the amorphous spines of the shadowmasters, an odd clan of shapeshifting sorcerers living in the demi-plane of Shadows. Such was the name given to Elminster of Shadowdale. Greenwood returns in the sequel to "Shadows of Doom", and the fifth in the line of novels dealing with the Godswar, also called the Avatar Crisis. Ed's humor is once again a huge part in this novel, as is the setting of the stage for the Maulagrym to steal into the magic depleated realms and wreak havok en route to total domination. Ithar, Belkram Sharantyr, along with the ghost of Sylune must battle the horrid creatures, or all Fearun will be lost. Over all a solid book, the best way I can place it is, Entertaining.Cloak of Shadows (Forgotten Realms: The Shadow of the Avatar, Book 2) OverviewThe Shadow Over FaerûnThe Time of Troubles had arrived. Shadows of Doom (Forgotten Realms: The Shadow of the Avatar, Book 1) ReviewThe trilogy of which this is the first book, like all the novels by Ed Greenwood features invincible, god-like heroes that slay their foes by the thousands. They invade a castle full of shapeshifters and defeat them all. No surprise there though, the good guys have to win the day of course. But the way they do it, it is just unbelievable, even for a fantasy novel. What I do not like at all about the books of Mr. Greenwood is, that his heroes are drenching the world in the blood of their enemies all the time. They are always evil, but when one reads his books, the answer to all your problems seems to be : Kill them all and do not think about it. They are evil and therefore deserve to die. I am not a moral apostle and enjoy reading action and battle-scenes, but killing people and monsters off by the thousands without any other moral justification than: They are against me, and I believe my way is the right way, is not only dangerous, but also no fun at all. I really have to consider buying another book by that author, even if I love the Realms he created and collect the novels. If you like god-like super-human-heroes winning the day, read it and be happy, if you like good fantasy, read something else.Shadows of Doom (Forgotten Realms: The Shadow of the Avatar, Book 1) OverviewElminster's DoomIt was the eve of the Time of Troubles. The chaos of spilled blood, lawless strife, monsters unleashed, and avatars roaming Faerûn was still to come. Unbeknownst to mortals, the gods had been summoned together, and among them was Mystra, grown proud and willful in the passing eons. With the others, she was about to be stripped of her godhood. The secret of her power gave her an idea. She made certain preparations, looking always for one who would be her successor . . . But until that person's ascension, her power must be preserved.A lone mortal must carry the greater share of her divine energy until the power could be reclaimed, and it was the fate of this mortal to risk being destroyed or driven wild, involuntarily and without warning. This was the occaision of Elminster's Doom.

The Ninth Avatar ReviewThe terrifying Carrion Army stalks the foreboding world of the Ninth Avatar. There are escapes and battles at every turn as a desperate group of heroes tries to reverse the fate of the world. It's a gripping read, and I was sad when it ended.
