The Young and the Digital: What the Migration to Social Network Sites, Games, and Anytime, Anywhere Media Means for Our Future ReviewThis book will get you up to date on what life is like for teens and tweens and twenty somethings. There is an opening survey of the history of technology in the home, starting in the days when most people just had a radio and a phone. But the narrative quickly moves into the present century. You read about the rise of the internet, email, instant messenger services, My Space, and now, Facebook. You learn about why people started moving from My Space to Facebook almost overnight, and how young people see Facebook as primarily an opportunity to enhance and support their current relationships, and not so much as a tool to search for new ones. You also read about how time online is starting to overtake the amount of time in front of the TV. The book seems to make more of this than warranted. Kids still watch hours of TV a day and often multitask by texting and Facebooking and You Tubing and watching Lost all at the same time.
You also read about the online gaming world. This medium, more than any other, makes it easy to create for yourself an alternate universe where people often create alternative characters for themselves and chat online with their gaming comrades.
There is also an interesting chapter about the idea of being addicted to the internet. The APA is not convinced at this time that internet use is an addiction, but apparently many young people feel that it is, and it is a problem in South Korea where PC Bangs command many hours of attention. Some people also report playing online games 8-12 hours a day.
There is a closing chapter about President Obama's huge online support and how much money he raised, and also how supporters created their own online Barack for President rallies.
This is a good book that should be read within the next year before it becomes out of date. The Young and the Digital: What the Migration to Social Network Sites, Games, and Anytime, Anywhere Media Means for Our Future Overview
In The Young and the Digital, S. Craig Watkins skillfully draws from more than 500 surveys and 350 in-depth interviews with young people, parents, and educators to understand how a digital lifestyle is affecting the ways youth learn, play, bond, and communicate. Timely and deeply relevant, the book covers the influence of MySpace and Facebook, the growing appetite for "anytime, anywhere" media and "fast entertainment," how online "digital gates" reinforce race and class divisions, and how technology is transforming America's classrooms. Watkins also debunks popular myths surrounding cyberpredators, Internet addiction, and social isolation. The result is a fascinating portrait, both celebratory and wary, about the coming of age of the first fully wired generation.
From the Trade Paperback edition.

Managing Online Forums: Everything You Need to Know to Create and Run Successful Community Discussion Boards ReviewI had the opportunity to read through this book over the last week, and I'm just floored by how much good information it's got in it. This book is years of Patrick's experiences running successful forums (22 forums now, I believe!) and all the tips, tricks and wisdom he's picked up during those years. I ran a moderately successful forum years ago, and would have saved myself months of headache and heartache had I the information in this book at my fingertips back then.
The book is definitely opinionated - these are Patrick's recommendations based on his experiences, and it shows. His voice is natural, and the wording is down to earth. This isn't some theoretical treatise, but a 'from the trenches' view of what works, what doesn't, and why.
The book includes many sample forms which have example language to use for welcoming members to your forum, working with moderators, dealing with abusive or disruptive visitors, and much more. They're all available on the book's website too, so you don't need to retype it all in, but can quickly customize them to fit your own needs .
The one thing lacking in this book is that it doesn't go in to much detail about the major forum packages out there, so the reader who is just starting out will have to do some more research as to what packages have which features discussed in the book. Having said that, this keeps the focus of the book more on the human/people side of internet forums, and doesn't devolve in to a technical manual. I would have preferred a small feature comparison of the big forum systems out there, but I'm more of a technically-inclined person to begin with. If you're not technically inclined, you likely won't even notice the information not there.
Bottom line: if you're thinking of starting a web-based community, or have one and aren't sure how to manage it, this book is a must-have. It will save you weeks, if not months, of getting up to speed and being as effective as possible with your forums.
Managing Online Forums: Everything You Need to Know to Create and Run Successful Community Discussion Boards OverviewEvery day, millions of users log on to their favorite online forums and interact with others to get advice and discuss everything from the latest news and trends to their hobbies, professions, and whatever else strikes their fancy. Administrators have to lead these communities, deal with difficult users, and choose moderators. Legal constraints, spammers, and technical issues can turn the excitement of running an online community into chaos. With the right guidance, however, running forums can be a pleasure. Patrick O'Keefe has spent years developing and managing online communities. Now, he shows readers how to make the right decisions about every aspect of their forums, including:' choosing a name and domain name' picking the right software' deciding on user options like avatars and private messaging' setting guidelines and dealing with violators' ensuring that posts stay on topic' settling online disputes among users' involving users and keeping the site interestingManaging Online Forums is the one book that shows site owners and administrators how to create a safe and entertaining community that users will return to again and again.

BuddyPress For Dummies ReviewThis book has a lot of filler in it. It is also out of date now with the integration of WordPress MU into WordPress 3.0 There is some helpful information in the book even with the advent of WordPress 3.0, but you have to dig to find it.
I hope the author comes out with an update for the book. She is a good writer, provides accurate information and some good tips and suggestions.
2 stars says I don't like it, I do like it, so 3 stars gets the "It's OK". But unless you get a great deal on this book I would wait, or find one that is current. Ready...Set...Tweet A Speedy Guide to Twitter: Get ready...get set up...and start Tweeting in no time. ReviewIt's important to know that author Lou Belcher herself is a relatively recent Twitter newbie and go from there. If your level of Twitter know-how consists of, "I've heard of Twitter but i don't get it," then this is exactly the book for you. Since Ready...Set...Tweet! never presumes to tackle any more than getting the Twitter neophyte loaded and and started, then it does what it sets out to do reasonably well.
Each chapter is brief and quick - the soul of Twitter. Belcher starts out by explaining what twitter is, who uses it, and the joys of being succinct within your 140 character limitations. In chapter two there are some very briefly mentioned categories of user groups one might find in the Twitterverse - for families, clubs, business marketers, new organizations, general and specific researchers, those engaging in collaborative efforts, and as a medium for announcements.
One you've caught that, you are swiftly introduced to blogs and websites (no, they are NOT the same thing) and then rushed along through the single page of chapter 4 that asks what your Twitter name might be and what you will be Tweeting about. Don't get too introspective, since chapter 5 is hard on the heels of chapter 4, and it's in and after chapter 5 that you actually get Tweeting. The instructions are simple to follow and most pages contain large screenshots that the twitter newbie will recognize as they sign up to Twitter, book in hand.
Each quick chapter teaches one basic skill - like getting your profile up, along with your avatar, your background colors, your bio, your first few tweets. Then Belcher shows how to find someone to follow. Once there, you're officially a newbie Twitterer, ready to delight the world with your pity quotations, TV fangirl commentary, brilliant photography, or wry views on the human race.
Before dropping you off to fend for yourself on the Timeline, Belcher offers a few last tips that are slightly beyond basic. She recommends using Hootsweet to schedule your tweets, asks the newbie to mix it up within the Twitterverse (to make a friend, you must first be a friend, not a self absorbed, obvious marketer), to retweet freely, and how to use such tools and memes as Search, Hashtags and Follow Fridays. A brief glossary, resource list and index round things out.
I read this book in 30 minutes on a plane ride from Chicago to San Diego. There was zero new content here for a seasoned social media maven. This isn't the book for them. This is a book the Twitter elite might give their spouse, or sibling, or whatever colleague has been hiding under a rock lately. It does the job of hand holding and does it fast. I doubt anyone would find Twitter frustrating to use with this slim book by their side.
Best for: Seasoned Tweeters to give as a gift to Twitter Novices to learn from, or for people who've been curious about joining the Twitter Timeline, who might have been a bit intimidated to ask someone what exactly they should do. Open the first page of Ready...Set...Tweet! with your computer at the ready. In less than an hour you'll be tweeting with the billions of users already in the know.
A great introduction for those in a hurry, or who just want to know brass tacks Twitter basics.Ready...Set...Tweet A Speedy Guide to Twitter: Get ready...get set up...and start Tweeting in no time. OverviewFrom sign in to sign out Ready...Set...Tweet! Mobilizing Generation 2.0: A Practical Guide to Using Web 2.0: Technologies to Recruit, Organize and Engage Youth ReviewEdit of 18 May to recommend Groundswell: Winning in a World Transformed by Social Technologies as a different book, with more practical tips and annecdotal support, but in no way does that reduce my appreciation for this book. Both are excellent, I think of them as truly complementary of one another.
-----
I *like* this book. Although I have years of exposure to advanced information technology and read everything by gurus like Paul Strasssman (cf. Information Productivity: Assessing Information Management Costs of U. S. Corporationsand Steve Arnold (Arnold IT, look for "Google 2.0: The Calculating Predator, not sold on Amazon), I learned stuff from this book, and I found it to be exactly right for getting an old-school CEO or other management skeptic "oriented."
In 268 well-organized and well-presented pages, the book covers:
+ Blogging
+ Social Networking
+ Video and Photo Sharing
+ Mobile Phones
+ Wikis
+ Maps
+ Virtual Worlds
Each chapter has extremely clear headlines, gray boxes, figures, and endnotes. To get a sense of the book and the online offerings that back it up, visit mobilizingyouth.org, just add the www.
A special value is short essays from top practitioners including Mitch Kapor whose essay, next to last, focuses on the coming convergence of virtual worlds and social networking. Visit BigPictureSmallWorld for a sense of the possibilities there--I have very deep admiration for Medard Gabel, who built the analog World Game with Buckminster Fuller, and I am so very eager to see him create EarthGame(TM) in which we all play ourselves and have access to all information in all languages all the time--at that point, we will end looting of our commonwealth, end corruption, and create invite wealth or as he puts it in the title of his new book, "Seven Billion Billionaires."
Most useful to me were the following:
+ Use all these tools internally to get a sense of them, before trying to do something with the broader online population
+ One billion people are connected, the rest are not, but what the billion do with their connections could impact on how quickly we get the other 5-6 billion connected and creating wealth
+ 55% of teens are active online, 80% of college students have a Facebook profile
+ Digg is an example of a global intelligence service in which every citizen is an intelligence consumer, collector, and producer
+ Cool examples that I will certainly look into include Care2, Causes, Hi5, and Gather
+ Politicians (including the three running for President now) simply do not get it. They are still using phone banks that call at all hours and spamming (Obama does less of it) instead of asking permission and then building on the relationship
+ I am very impressed by the natural manner in which the book communicates the relationship between having a good story with heroes, villians, and catalysts, and the sequence of fund-raising via text connection and follow-up. This book strikes me as both a very very good elementary text for digital immigrants (us old guys) and also a useful "once over" for the more experienced who may be overlooking a couple of pieces of the overall campaign.
+ The book emphasizes the many uses of the wiki, many of them internal, some external, but the most important being that wikis are a way of crowd sourcing. See the first book from Earth Intelligence Network, Collective Intelligence: Creating a Prosperous World at Peace (free at oss.net/CIB just add the www, but utterly lovely here at Amazon) and especially the later chapters on large scale collective and collaborative intelligence in action.
+ Tag clouds are vital, as is the selection of unique tags for clusters of informaiton you want to make easily available.
+ Virtual worlds are in their infancy, and when they finally develop, will be extraordinary as nuanced immersive learning environments (low cost low risk environmental, I would add).
The last essay from Katrin Verclas is great, and I selected the following quote with which to end this review--it captures the essence:
"Web 2.0 describes a participatory, bottom-up, decentralized world full of individual expression where people have direct access to one another and enjoy an unprecedented ability to organize, meet, and coordinate without centralized control or traditional hierarchies."
YES!

The Social Factor: Innovate, Ignite, and Win through Mass Collaboration and Social Networking ReviewFour signs that you are seriously behind the Internet-driven times: 1) You type "www" in front of Web addresses, 2) You think "geek" is a term of derision, 3) You subscribe to TV Guide and 4) You have a landline. If these descriptions fit you, then you will find Maria Azua's book eye-opening. WordPress Bible ReviewIf you are just starting out with WordPress, then the best book I've found for that is Lisa Sabin Wilson's "WordPress For Dummies" (WPD). WPD will carry you surprisingly far into the installation, use, maintenance and extension of WordPress. It is now in its second edition with a third expected soon.
For most people, WPD will suffice.
But If your needs are more demanding, then Aaron Brazell's "WordPress Bible" is a good place to go.
Brazell gets much deeper under the WordPress hood than Sabin-Wilson. - and this content is not for the neophyte.
The content is eclectic, with a lot of emphasis on building plugins. Installing WordPress is covered, but not in the same supportive way you'll find in WPD. Some chapters are head-scratchers: why are nine pages devoted to the WordPress help system ("Codex") and other support groups? Chapters like "Extending WordPress with Plugins", "Widgetizing WordPress", "Understanding the WordPress Database Class" and the doozy "Dissecting the Loop and WP_Query" give you what you need to know to write and manage plugns. Another chapter talks about using WordPress as a Content Management System, which I found helpful, and wish was three times longer.
Overall, "WordPress Bible" is a valuable addition to any serious WordPress library. My one criticism of the book is about Wiley, the publisher: they have a adopted a design that makes it look as if the type is printed in gray, which I find very difficult to read for more than a few minutes at a time. Wiley does not respond to customer comments. Because of this flaw, I will buy Wiley books only when they appear to be best in class.

The Everything Guide to Social Media: All you need to know about participating in today's most popular online communities (Everything (Business & Personal Finance)) ReviewThis book is an excellent introduction to Social Media for newbies. As someone who teaches Social Media Classes, both online and in San Francisco, I approached this book looking for help for my students on Social Media Marketing.
It has one only one chapter on that topic, so my first reaction was not positive. But I gave the book a 'second chance,' so to speak, and my jaded instructor eyes wandered thru its pages. It captivated me with little nuggets of new insights on the 'history' of various social media (e.g., Facebook, Friendster, and LinkedIn) as well as tips and tricks for each one.
Its focus is more for the general, novice user. But, as such, it is a great complement to other books on Social Media Marketing per se.
The book also has a strong focus on the "International" aspects of Social Media, explaining - for example - how and why Friendster remains popular abroad even as its popularity has faded in the USA.
If you are a marketer (especially an older one), new to Social Media, this book alone is not sufficient. But when purchased with other Social Media MARKETING books, it is an effective soup-to-nuts complement.
I am always looking for comments, feedback and connections - so Google 'Jason McDonald SEO' to connect with me and share your ideas about the emerging Social Media world of marketing. The Everything Guide to Social Media: All you need to know about participating in today's most popular online communities (Everything (Business & Personal Finance)) Overview"The Everything Guide to Social Media" gives readers the knowledge, tools, and techniques to understand and join in the social media movement. Designing Social Interfaces: Principles, Patterns, and Practices for Improving the User Experience (Animal Guide) ReviewMalone and Crumlish have done the user-experience design community an amazing service with this volume. It does the hard, rigorous work that most of us simply do not have time or dedication to do -- creating the first solid set of building blocks for designing socially driven digital platforms.
The book goes beyond the easy categories of things like "blogs & wikis" and breaks those and other compounds down into their essential elements, helping us make more informed and less platform-dependent decisions.
Design patterns are always challenging to produce, especially since designers inevitably nit-pick them to death. But these patterns are up to the challenge: they actually make sense, and I suspect will stand up handsomely to the persnickety-designer test. But even if you differ with some of their particulars, it's incredibly valuable to have the heavy lifting already done, so all you have to do is react, refine and "improve" for your own use.
More than a mere collection of patterns, the book doles out large helpings of hard-won wisdom from the authors and other veterans of the industry who have wrestled with the volatile, emergent nature of socially driven digital design.
If you're doing anything with social design, from being asked to create a corporate blog to enhancing the way employees share knowledge on your intranet, do yourself a favor and get familiar with Designing Social Interfaces.

Building a WordPress Blog People Want to Read (2nd Edition) ReviewI purchased this book with 2 other titles: a DVD, "How to Theme WordPress" by Aleks Monahan which I think is a very good and more advanced tutorial specifically on template design and theming WordPress (review already posted on that DVD's page) and "WordPress For Dummies" by Lisa Sabin-Wilson.
This book is a good book for novices and I think it has the potential of becoming the de facto standard for novices instead of the bulkier "WordPress for Dummies" by Lisa Sabin-Wilson.
If you're new to WordPress, get this book. The page layout was very nice and the fonts were easy on the eye, I finished it in just 1 day. It will get you going with the basics very quickly (except in one instance, read below). It's written in a way that assumes no previous knowledge of WordPress. For example, on page 3, the author says: "WordPress can be extended by little bits of code called plug-ins." This smooth and flowing style of writing can be very helpful to you if you're a new WordPress blogger.
One section where this book fails truly miserably (and hence the 4-star review) is the section "Setting up the MySQL Database". I'm not new to WordPress. I've used it for blogging for more than 2 months now on the free wordpress.com site, and I'm now beginning to consider moving to my own domain website. I'm sad to say that the "Setting up the MySQL Database" section failed me there.
The author says "you need to create a MySQL database... the installation will fail if you don't set this database up beforehand." But then he says that setting up the database is "beyond the scope of this book" and gives some very brief pointers that do not compare to the level of detail most users in need of this information would find helpful. I was disappointed that I had to look elsewhere for this information e.g. it's covered in Sabin-Wilson's "WordPress for Dummies" in more than 2 pages and on Aleks Monahan's "How to Theme WordPress" DVD. I wished McNulty covered it too. It would have made the book a "complete" guide for new bloggers.
Most other sections were very useful. The author discusses some very interesting features like how to set up your blog to accept posts by email and how to automate the process even more. The section explaining uploads and how to configure them is very helpful if you're like me interested in moving to your own WordPress site under your own private domain. I found the book also strong on how to handle media and images and enjoyed those sections.
I found Scott McNulty's information on templates in the themes section very shallow in comparison to the DVD tutorial on theming by Aleks Monahan. This is not necessarily a negative. The book is intended for beginners after all and the author admits that what he's presenting is small tweaks to existing themes. For templates and theming, I highly recommend you purchase the DVD by Aleks Monahan. It's very good, an eye opener and nice to watch regardless of whether you want to create your template or not. I'm not ready to create my template yet, but found the DVD very informative and now that I've watched it, I might get to the stage of creating a template of my own sooner. You can use the templates chapter by McNulty as a primer.
The book also discusses plug-ins and how to open a plug-in to edit it if you want. The author also touches very slightly on how to start setting up a plug-in but the information again is very shallow in this section. Some code showing how to build a sample plug-in would have been great. 1 full example would be enough. The section "Plug-ins no blog should be without" is also very good and he mentions the WP Security Scan plug-in which I'm getting for sure, very useful, and other useful plug-ins too.
If you're new to WordPress, buy this book, it's a light read, really easy on the eye (not to be underestimated) and it's well written and nicely formatted. But don't depend on it as the only source. It's a good way to get started. See the other resources mentioned.
Building a WordPress Blog People Want to Read (2nd Edition) OverviewHaving your own blog isn't just for the nerdy anymore. Today, it seems everyone—from multinational corporations to a neighbor up the street—has a blog. They all have one, in part, because the folks at WordPress make it easy to have one. But to actually build a good blog—to create a blog people want to read—takes thought, planning, and some effort. From picking a theme and using tags to choosing widgets and building a community, creating your blog really starts after you've set it up.In Building a WordPress Blog People Want to Read by blogger extraordinaire Scott McNulty, you'll learn how to:
Install and get your WordPress site running.
Set up your site to ensure it can easily grow with you and your readers.
Be the master of user accounts.
Manage your site with the WordPress Dashboard and extend its capabilities with plug-ins.
Make the most of images.
Work with pages, templates, and links and—of course—publish your posts.
Use custom post types and taxonomies to bend WordPress to your will.
Deal with comments—if you even want readers commenting at all.
Find a theme and make it your own.

The Social Media Marketing Book ReviewI have been moving around social media for some time, though I am by no means a pro, either in marketing or Internet tech.
I appreciate this will be useful for anyone who has not even come into contact with social media networks, but anyone who has dabbled even slightly will find this *extremely* basic. I just cannot understand how anyone can even suggest it might be useful for a pro, never mind recommend it! If you are seriously looking to develop a social media strategy, it means you have a basic appreciation of what it's about, and that's how far this book goes, no further. In any case, don't do serious social media strategy based simply on the know-how in this book! The Social Media Marketing Book Overview

With easy-to-understand introductions to blogging, forums, opinion and review sites, and social networks such as Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn, this book will help you choose the best -- and avoid the worst -- of the social web's unique marketing opportunities. The Social Media Marketing Book guides you through the maze of communities, platforms, and social media tools so you can decide which ones to use, and how to use them most effectively. With an objective approach and clear, straightforward language, Dan Zarrella, aka "The Social Media & Marketing Scientist," shows you how to plan and implement campaigns intelligently, and then measure results and track return on investment. Whether you're a seasoned pro or new to the social web, this book will take you beyond the jargon to social media marketing mastery.

The Art of Immersion: How the Digital Generation Is Remaking Hollywood, Madison Avenue, and the Way We Tell Stories ReviewRose's new book, The Art of Immersion, provides an interesting behind-the-scenes look into the conception, creation, and promotion of many products of popular media from Christopher Nolan's film The Dark Knight to Xbox's Halo; from George Lucas' Star Wars suite to the Nine Inch Nails' album Year Zero; from ABC's Lost to Evan Williams' sites Blogger and Twitter.
Yet for all of its contemporary pop culture references and social media anecdotes, The Art of Immersion feels quite dated. His thesis ("A new type of narrative is emerging--one that's sold through many media at once in a way that's non-linear, that's participatory and often gamelike, and that's designed above all to be immersive.") is obvious to even the most technologically un-savvy reader. Nearly everyone, from Topeka, Kansas to Tokyo, Japan has understood that intuitively (if not explicitly) for 10 years.
I enjoyed reading the first few chapters in which Rose discusses the transformation of media and the creation of increasingly immersive worlds through the advancement of the technology, content and delivery method of newer forms of media. Rose outlines a rough sketch from the invention of the printing press and moveable type to the advent of the motion picture to the seductive glow of the living room television to the immersive and participatory "deep media" of the Internet. Yet as I continued to read, I kept waiting for the book to "start".
Each new chapter felt like a slight regurgitation of the one before it; each felt like an introduction to the theme, yet the book never fully developed the theme. True to his subtile, Rose answered How the Digital Generation Is Remaking Hollywood, Madison Avenue, and the Way we Tell Stories. But each chapter begs the questions: WHY? What effect does this have on our culture? Are there any positive or negative consequences? What can we expect for the future of media? Etc. Rose's point that media has changed to be more immersive is obvious and could have been articulated clearly in an introduction. I hoped he would go deeper.
The Art of Immersion is interesting at points and offers its readers great tidbits about their favorite television shows, films, music, and websites. But it left this reader wanting more. The Art of Immersion: How the Digital Generation Is Remaking Hollywood, Madison Avenue, and the Way We Tell Stories Overview

Social Media Marketing: Strategies for Engaging in Facebook, Twitter & Other Social Media ReviewWith the 5 stars, I thought this would be just what I was looking for. The book got off to a good start but then it became so repetitive that I stopped on page 215. Written simply for novices to understand, I'm not sure where the earlier reviewers found the expert guidance on strategy development and said it was for experts - now really?? This book is a great overview of social media and aligning it with goals and audiences but if I didn't already have some background in managing this as part of our organization's marketing communications strategy, this book would still leave me needing much more info. I may use it as an intro to several staff members but then, it's loaded with typos and missing words that really surprised me. I like the short chapters and assume the author expected people to jump around and that's why so much content is repeated throughout. I'm looking for a true guide for strategy development and integration? Anyone have suggestions?Social Media Marketing: Strategies for Engaging in Facebook, Twitter & Other Social Media OverviewProfit Big from Social Media: Strategies and Solutions That Work!Using new social media marketing techniques, you can deepen relationships with your most passionate, profitable customers--and create more of them than ever before! Twitter For Dummies (For Dummies (Computer/Tech)) ReviewI purchased this book after finding just enough information elsewhere to get me addicted to Twitter. The information I was able to find was a bit vague and seemed to be more for the veteran than the newbie. Then along came "Twitter for Dummies" and all of my questions were answered. This book not only explains how you do everything, but why you would want to in the first place. It is written with a clear understanding and a true passion for the service. Twitter is such a fast evolving service that is used by so many different people and organizations for so many different reasons that no book could ever cover it all. Fortunately, the authors have provided additional resources which will provide whatever updated or changing information you may need. But be forewarned, if you are just a casual user of Twitter, this book may make you a true addict.
As with other "for Dummies" books, "Twitter for Dummies" is broken down into convenient, independent sections which contain all of the necessary information a reader needs to gain a full understanding of each topic. Although a cover to cover read will give a reader a somewhat unnecessary review of the basics required for each section, the authors have placed enough little factoids and bits of information (@Pistachio's Easter eggs) throughout the book that you will want to read it all.
If you purchase this book, you can find me on Twitter at @Headshota23 (shameless plug). I'm sure I will see you there.

Social Media for Social Good: A How-to Guide for Nonprofits ReviewI follow Heather's blog and find her ideas very useful. This book seems to bring together most of her ideas in a very tight and well organized book. It is easy to find an idea and put it to use. Many of these ideas are in her blog, but this is so much easier for those who are beginners or advanced beginners with social media. I recommended it to several folks who won't go looking through blogs for answers, but who would find a book easy. So many ideas, I get inspired and start writing down my own adaptations and how I can make these ideas work. I love the "Nonprofit Examples of Excellence" so I can go to those sites and see for myself how they use the ideas.Social Media for Social Good: A How-to Guide for Nonprofits OverviewBased on more than 15 years of experience in nonprofit communicationsand 15,000+ hours spent utilizing social and mobile media, Social Media for Social Good: A How-To Guide for Nonprofits is a comprehensive 256-page hardcover book packed with more than 100best practices covering Web 1.0, Web 2.0, and Web 3.0 nonprofitcommunications and fundraising.
